Some veterans have now started a hunger strike unto death at Delhi. ( I'm told the IAS also wanted to do a similar counter hunger strike but dropped the idea once it was pointed out that since they are already brain dead nobody would notice when they copped it!). But seriously, relations between the civil govt. and the armed forces have never been so dangerously bad, and its getting worse because Modi just won't talk to them. A disaffected army at a time when our borders with both China and Pakistan are under tension is the last thing we need.
On a lighter note, Sandip, if I had one more ardent follower like you I could set up an Ashram and become a Godman ! And stop pushing my case for Cabinet Secretary- Modi might just take it seriously, I might become Cab Sec, and the army will then put me in front of a firing squad as the face ( butt ?) of the IAS.Avay Shuklahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02928879917197239026noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8561209253464577539.post-47564925595356000232015-08-18T18:41:10.385+05:302015-08-18T18:41:10.385+05:30I knew nothing of OROP and now stand educated by t...I knew nothing of OROP and now stand educated by this brilliant (and noble as I'll explain in a moment) piece. I see many indignant comments on the HillPost link via Facebook by those pushing for OROP only for army retirees, but as someone having no dog in this race I find your (Avay's) logic and proposed solutions compelling.

Why is this a noble essay? Because though you don't mention it Avay, I know you too retired at this APEX scale and are enjoying the benefits of OROP which you are proposing to abolish! I also know you have modest means because (unlike many others) you never attempted to unfairly enrich yourself while in service. So you stand to lose a lot if your suggestions were accepted.

While others may rail at your "elite IAS babuness" while questioning your objectivity or judgement I wish there were more people like you in our service. India would be much better off. Are PM Modi and his group seeing this? YOU should have been Cabinet Secretary.SandipMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04721935576457691892noreply@blogger.com
